Opening the world of Ghibli…

Who Am I

João Vitor Ventura

João Vitor Ventura

.NET Developer · Full-stack

Hi, I'm João Vitor Ventura, but most people just call me Ventura. I'm a .NET developer from Santa Catarina, Brazil, with about three years of experience building web and cross-platform applications, mostly with ASP.NET Core, Blazor and SQL Server.

Before code, I studied chemistry at a technical high school and spent a semester in a lab working on a research project. Since then I've taken part in game jams, taught programming and worked as a freelancer, and each of those left something in the way I work: patience to explain, curiosity to test, and attention to the details that make software feel finished.

My path

  1. 2019 to 2022

    A chemistry technician first

I studied chemistry at IFSC, the Federal Institute of Santa Catarina. In my last year I joined Sustembalagem, a research project making water-resistant recycled paper for washing powder packages donated to vulnerable communities. We took the paper's water resistance from under a second to more than an hour.

  2. June 2023

    The first line of code

My first program was Dark Dungeon Quest, a turn-based RPG in Python that ran in the terminal with ASCII art. Soon after came games in GameMaker, including a platformer built in less than a week for a game jam.

  3. 2023 to 2025

    Systems Analysis and Development

I graduated in Systems Analysis and Development at Senac Santa Catarina, working with C#, Java, Python and JavaScript, relational and non-relational databases, and deployments to the cloud.

  4. April 2024

    A published paper

I co-authored a paper proposing real-time bus routes integrated with Google Maps for rural communities, published in the journal REASE.

  5. 2024 to 2025

    Programming teacher at Senac

For a year I taught people with no background in technology how to build for the web: ASP.NET Core, React, Blazor, SQL Server and Azure, in a full-stack course and in a front-end one. At the end of the course, my students were hosting their own databases in the cloud.

  6. 2025

    Lume

A college project I created: a movie recommendation app with a .NET MAUI client, an ASP.NET Core API and ML.NET clustering, with MySQL hosted on Azure.

  7. 2025 to today

    Freelance developer

Since March 2025 I work as a freelancer, mostly on a long contract with an e-commerce and ERP company: ASP.NET Core and Blazor applications, SQL Server, custom Odoo modules, Shopify and shipping integrations, and the less glamorous part too, deploying to Windows Server and fixing what breaks in production.

  8. Now

    Still learning

These days I'm building a history guessing game with Next.js and TypeScript on top of an ASP.NET Core API, and finally finishing this tribute to Studio Ghibli.

How I work

I explain what I do

A year teaching beginners taught me to explain technical decisions without hiding behind jargon. The people I work with understand what was done and why.

I stay for the long run

Most of my freelance work comes from one long contract, more than a thousand hours on the same system. I know what it means to maintain code, not just to write it.

I test before I trust

Unit and integration tests against real databases, and a good amount of time reading production logs. Having started in a lab probably helps.
